About Us
About Us / History
Imagination Library of Barry County is the local Barry County, Michigan community partner for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth until age 5, regardless of family income. Dolly Parton founded the program in 1995 in her home state of Tennessee, and with the financial support of local partners, it is now available throughout North America, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Recently, the program has surpassed 100-million books delivered.
The program became available in Barry County in 2016, through the vision and generosity of members of the Delton, Hastings, and Middleville Rotary Clubs, Rotary International, and the Rotary District 6360 Foundation, along with ongoing technical support of the Barry Intermediate School District. Since then, a number of additional corporate and individual sponsors have stepped up to sustain the effort, as enrollment continues to grow. In 2018, Barry County United Way added Imagination Library of Barry County as a partner agency. About $30 provides one child with 12 books per year.
